Stephen C. Sciortino, P.E.

Mr. Stephen Sciortino is the owner and principal engineer of Insight Consulting Engineering. His primary areas of consultation are structural & civil forensic engineering encompassing:

After completing his Civil Engineering degree at the University of Utah, Mr. Sciortino was commissioned an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps and served with the 2nd Battalion 6th Marines in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He spent part of his active duty tour as the 2nd Marine Division Environmental & Safety Compliance Officer, managing the EPA and OSHA programs for the 16,000 personnel within the division. Upon completing his active duty tour, he received an Honorable Discharge holding the rank of Captain, and entered the civilian workforce as a construction manager.

Mr. Sciortino has extensive experience conducting forensic examinations, structural analysis and report composition. He has examined hundreds of structures, identifying the cause and extent of various types of damage. He has acted as an expert witness on a variety of cases, using his familiarity with current and historical building codes, design methods and construction standards to identify design and construction defects.

In addition to forensic engineering, Mr. Sciortino has extensive experience in land development, civil engineering and construction management.

Mr. Sciortino served as the principal engineer of an in-house land development firm for a regional builder. He designed several residential subdivisions and commercial properties totaling over 1,100 lots. The engineering included paving & grading plans, potable water systems, sanitary & storm sewer systems, and storm water management plans. He provided cost estimations for development and represented the owner in various state, county, and municipal public hearings. Mr. Sciortino served as the corporate engineer for a top 20 builder, structurally engineering over 500 custom plans and providing value engineering to reduce costs.

Mr. Sciortino was a lead construction manager for a top 5 builder as well as providing custom design-build services to individual clients. He is familiar with acceptable standards for all framing, roofing, foundation & basement, insulation & building envelope, masonry, fenstration, and mechanical trade work.
